What is Umbilical Cord Tissue?

The umbilical cord is the lifeline between mother and child.

The umbilical cord tissue contains stem cells with unique properties which come from the time of the early development of the child.

It has got multiple types of specialized cells from the early development of the baby. The tissue is composed of epithelial and endothelial stem cells, and those found in abundance and the most important are Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs). Several ongoing studies have proved that these stem cells in the cord tissue have the unique ability to transform into specialized tissue and has the potential for cellular therapy for the regeneration and repair of diseased organs and tissues of the body.

Advantage of Cord Tissue Banking

a. Mesenchymal cells (MSCs) are applied in medical experiments to help treat a variety of medical conditions, especially in degenerative diseases, including cerebral palsy, autism, ALS and Diabetes.

b. MSCs can be applied together with stem cells derived from cord blood in situations where there is a relatively low amount of haematopoietic stem cells within the cord blood.

c. MSCs can be utilized to care for the whole family (there is no strict requirement for an HLA match as in the case of cord blood.

The Beginning of a Secured Future

Storing your baby’s cord blood secures precursors of blood and immune system, and storing the umbilical cord tissue derived stem cells, gives your family a lifetime of opportunities, when the potentials of research breakthrough moves to standard clinical practices.
